The Journal of the Barbados Museum & Historical Society has been in continuous publication since it first appeared in November 1933. From inception until volume 38, the Journal was issued as a quarterly and thereafter as an annual. Described in 1958 by the then editor J.W.B Chenery as “our great endeavour”, the pages of the Journal have been used to document the history and heritage of the island, as well as the development of the Barbados Museum. In so doing, it has become, to a large extent, an “authoritative voice” in Barbadian history, providing a forum for academics as well as amateur historians, genealogists, heritage practitioners and cultural enthusiasts to share their research and knowledge with a wider audience.
